Frequently Asked Questions
|
- What does it do?
AdKiller removes ads from web pages in order to speed up your browsing. It does this by acting as
a proxy server, replacing ads with a transparent image as pages are downloaded. This speeds up
your browsing because ad images are never downloaded. Only the actual content of the page (which
is most likely what you are interested in) is downloaded. Keep in mind that image files (including
ads) are much larger than the text files that make up a page. Added to this is the fact that ads
are frequently downloaded from a separate address than the one that you are looking at. This
means that your computer must look up extra addresses, make the connections and download these
annoying ads. With AdKiller, this extra work is eliminated.
|
- I've downloaded AdKiller, but my computer can't open the file. What's wrong?
If your computer doesn't know what to do with the downloaded file, you probrably
don't have any software installed that can read "zip" files. If this is the
case, you can download winzip from www.winzip.com.

|
- Some ads are gone but others show up. Is something wrong?
AdKiller searches for certain patterns to identify ads. Unfortunately, sometimes it's not
possible to distinguish between an ad and a regular graphic so the ad gets through. We are
constantly looking for new patterns, so please report pages where ads come through to us.
Simply copy whatever address appears in the "Address:" or "Location:" field at the top of
your browser. We realize privacy is important, so if you don't want to tell us what sites
you are visiting, you can use our contact form to remain anonymous.
Also, download the latest Ad Definitions periodically. This file
updates AdKiller ad patterns to allow it to block more ads. This is necessary since web site
are constantly changing the way that they display ads.
